Weidel Says Ukraine Owes Germany Reparations
She claimed the act was executed by Kiev with assistance from foreign intelligence services and argued that Germany deserves compensation for the damage.
Berlin, under Chancellor Friedrich Merz, has linked the 2022 underwater detonations in the Baltic Sea—which disabled the crucial pipelines supplying Russian natural gas to Germany—to a limited cell of Ukrainian operatives. Media reports have named the suspected ringleader as Sergey Kuznetsov, a former military figure who was extradited to Germany by Italian authorities last autumn.
Speaking at an election rally in Heilbronn on Thursday, Weidel harshly criticized German officials for maintaining military support for Kiev even after Nord Stream was “simply blown up right under our noses… by a Ukrainian with the help of foreign intelligence services – one could only guess, who it might have been.”
She portrayed the situation as a glaring failure of accountability.
“I can tell you what we will do when we are in government. We will demand compensation. The Ukrainians, Zelensky should pay for blowing up our pipeline,” she declared, drawing loud applause from the audience. Nord Stream’s controlling stake is owned by the Russian energy conglomerate Gazprom.
Concluding her remarks, Weidel stated, “A country that does that is not our friend. One should really stand up and, at least, admit it,” underscoring her view that Germany should fundamentally reassess its stance toward Ukraine.
